Medgar Harrison joins the Bethune-Cookman Wildcat staff in 2011as the new Director of Strength & Conditioning. He gotto work right away, and theWildcat athletes are seeing a tremendous transformation in the newly-run strength & conditioning department.
"This has been such a smooth transition, and I am so thankful to be at this great, prestigious university," Harrison said. When Medgar Harrison arrived at Bethune-Cookman University, he did not waste any time with the reconstruction and rejuvenation of the Strength & Conditioning department. Harrison immediately hit the International Speedway running with the implementation of strength & conditioning training protocols for the 17 men's and women's sports on campus. "We are so excited to have Medgar Harrison as part of our program," said Bethune-Cookman Director of Athletics Lynn W. Thompson. "He is a rising star and his vision for our program, combined with our new facilities, will be a great tool for us to continue to build championship teams in all of our programs." Harrison arrived in Daytona Beach fresh off two seasons at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he served as the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the men's swimming & diving team. Harrison assisted the Volunteers to a 12th place national finish this year at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, while training 13 All-Americans. He also worked directly with the Volunteers' football team, in which he assisted with the training of two first round draft picks in the 2010 draft.Harrison also accompanied the Vols to two consecutive bowl game appearances (2010 Music City Bowl and 2009 Chick-Fil-A Bowl). Harrison will oversee all aspects of Bethune-Cookman strength & conditioning, having a hand in every sport's program. This is not unfamiliar territory for the newest Wildcat, as he previously worked with women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, and golf at Louisiana Lafayette (ULL), handling daily development and implementation of the off-season, summer, and in-season workouts for each team. At ULL, Harrison served as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at his alma mater before heading to Rocky Top Tennessee. Harrison graduated initially from Louisiana Lafayette in 2005, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science. He later earned his Master of Science degree in Human Resources with a concentration in Nutrition in 2007. He is a member of the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). Harrison is a certified through the NSCA and USA weightlifting. |
