Track Splitting the Weekend Between Liberty and Clemson Meets
The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Track & Field will make an unexpected team split in this weekend's competition, sending groups to both the Clemson Invite and the Liberty Open looking to notch performances beyond the qualifying standard for the MEAC Indoor Track Championships. Using their recent familiarity with the facility, B-CU turned in several top-tier performances at the Gator Invite, Sunday at the University of Florida's Stephen O'Connell Center. B-CU's men led the way, topped by Stephon Pamilton's win in the 400m, but the women showed steadiness in field events, reeling in five top ten finishes. Making one of the quickest turnarounds in track & field, B-CU competed Saturday at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center, performing less than 24 hours after a two day meet at UAB. Upon returning to Florida, B-CU's relays and field events consistently earned the top spots in the meet, but several familiar faces earned high marks. Underclassmen Ricy Brown and Stephon Pamilton led the way for the Wildcats, as they wrapped up competition Friday afternoon at the UAB Blazer Invite. B-CU faced very stiff southern competition at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena, but some performances from newcomers shined brightly out of the second indoor meet of the season, with the Wildcat men turning in the highest marks. The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman track & field head back into competition this week, and have quite a full slate ahead, taking on two indoor meets in one weekend. B-CU opens on Thursday afternoon and evening at the two-day UAB Blazer Invite, then head right back home for the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville on Saturday. [+]
