CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University Track & Field opened competition Friday at the Clemson Invitational on the campus of Clemson University. This was their second trip to the facility, as the Wildcats opened their indoor season there in early December. Facing off with eight other eastern teams, B-CU sought to improve on those performances and got a solid day of competition to kick off the meet, turning in six top-five finishes including one field-topping performance.

Ron Danielle Williams led all Wildcats, claiming the top spot in both the preliminaries and finals of the women's shot put. Williams threw a distance of 14.10 m (46-03.25 ft.) to earn first. Also in the event and turning in an upper-tier finish, Maketa Ruffin finished fifth with a distance of 11.89m (39-00.25 ft.).

Turning in the top performance on the men's side, DJ Howard dropped just enough off his time in the finals of the 60m hurdles to move up one position and finish second in a time of 8.09 seconds. In the women's 60 m hurdles, Crystal Bardge also performed well, finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 8.77.

The Wildcat men earned two spots in the 60 m dash finals, with Eric Cray crossing the line fifth in 6.97 seconds, while Chris Jackson came in seventh in a time of 7.01. Both improved their times notably since the season's first competition in December.

In men's field events, the Wildcats also landed two in the finals, as Kenson Nicholas claimed fourth place in the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.97m (45-10.00 ft.) and newcomer Richard Carter leaped a distance of 13.19m (43-03.25 ft.)

Competition continues Saturday for the Wildcats in South Carolina, with B-CU competing in twelve middle distance/long sprint and relay events to notch more points for the team in the meet.
