Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University may-well have posted the best results of the short outdoor season over the weekend while competing in the Walt Disney Relays at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Head coach Garfield Ellenwood and his band of Wildcats gathered together for their second effort of the year in outdoor competition, but no one could expect a great performance like the one they turned in during the day on Saturday. On the women's side of things, twins Melissa and Monique Scott went 3 and 4 in the 100 Meter Dash with times of 12.55 seconds (Melissa) and 12.65 seconds (Monique). The Wildcats' women's 4x200 Meter Relay squad posted a first place time of 1:45.23, while the 1600 Sprint Medley team finished atop the pack with a time of 4:26.92 overall. Melissa and Monique Scott both competed in the Sprint Medley alongside Teanne Sergeant and Tenisha Bryan. In the field events for the women, Samantha Shade collected a first place showing in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.32m (17-05.50). Behind her in second place was teammate Britney Gibson with a jump of 5.25m (17-02.75). The two teammates swapped places in the Triple Jump as Gibson went first, followed by Shade in second place. Devin King-Pierre took second place in the Shot Put event with a throw of 9.66m (31-08.50). In the men's events, Harold Rose, Jr. took second place in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.19 seconds, while Richard Woodbury tied for third place with a time of 11.21 seconds.
The men's 1600 Sprint Medley team, comprised of Curtis Marshall, Damarius Carroll, Harold Rose, Jr. and Kyle Dillet, finished atop the heap with a time of 3:39.82 for the event. Craig Johnson, a specialist in throws for the Wildcats, finished first in the Shot Put category as he collected a distance of 14.25m (46-09.00). Bethune-Cookman will look to keep their hot ways on track next weekend as they travel to the Walt Disney Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. at the Wide World of Sports Complex. Numerous teams from around the state will be in attendance for the annual event. |
