CLEMSON, S.C. – Bethune-Cookman senior Eric Cray won the 60 meter dash to highlight the Wildcat’s performance at the Clemson Invitational indoor meet this weekend. Cray clocked a personal best of 6.88 seconds to win the event and also set a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles (8.09) after having the lead time of the prelims with an 8.02. “Our Men's Team had a good day overall and will only get better, said B-CU coach Donald Cooper. “The character and work ethic is outstanding and the morale is high. We have a few other people to get healthy before we embark on the official season next semester.” Freshman sensation Stephon Pamilton finished ninth in the 800m with a 1:59. He later led the Men's 4x400 Relay, passing the baton off in 1st ahead of Clemson University. Kevin Rono had a personal best in the mile, finishing seventh overall while Joshua Perkins competed in the finals of the long jump. Sophomore Martin Embry made the finals of the 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles, but did not compete after a suffering a hamstring strain.
In women’s competition, B-CU had three representatives in the final of the 60 meter dash. Nickesha Williams led the way with a second place finish (7.54) followed by Analisa Austin (7.75) and Alphadellia Harris (7.76). Freshman Ileis Figureoa finished sixth in the 800 (2:25) while Maketa Ruffin placed 7th in the shot put with a throw of 11.47 meters. “We’re pleased with the performance of the women’s team, Cooper said. “It was an opportunity for our freshman and transfers to get a feel for indoor track and field. We have areas that we plan to improve on as we prepare for competition next semester. It was also an opportunity to see our conference rivals, FAMU and Savannah State University. I think we stack up very well against them right now and we have a lot of room for improvement.” |
