One Wildcat was among the very substantial crowd of 191 competing athletes. Junior Kadian Dunkley wrapped up her season with a 78th place Regional finish at the meet. “She went out and competed well today,” said Head Coach Donald Cooper. “It will definitely boost her confidence, because she knows that she can go out and run with the best.” A Brooklyn, N.Y. native, Dunkley moved from the role of contender to champion recently, when she took her top-ten conference ranking and blew it right out of the water with a big win at the MEAC Cross Country Championships, taking the overall individual title, earning All-MEAC status, and granting access to the Regional meet. “The course was hard and the competition was good,” said Dunkley after the race, “I went out and did my best.” Though most regular season races are a 5k distance, the Championships run a 6k course; a distance Dunkley had. With a changing topography on Alabama’s course, Dunkley was able to run a career best 22:32.1, earning her 78th place in the Regional meet. A junior college transfer and former NCJAA All-American, Dunkley made a very successful run at her first season in B-CU Maroon and Gold, finishing outside the top five only once on the year…that’s six of seven meets if you’re counting at home. The Regional concludes the season for B-CU cross country, who now turn their attention to indoor track, where Dunkley is expected to once again be an asset to the Wildcats, taking on the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs.
