HOOVER, Ala. – Bethune-Cookman University’s Kevin Romo finished 86th in his NCAA post-season debut Saturday at the Southern Regional hosted by Samford University. The sophomore from Kenya turned in a time of 33:05.70 over the ten kilometer course at Veteran’s Park. This was the first time he’s competed at this distance. Rono outdistanced Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference meet champion Shuain Winters by two minutes and 40 seconds. Winters was 126th in the 147-man field. “I’m proud of him. He stepped it up in the most competitive race of his young career,” said B-CU distance coach Garon Jackson of Rono. “The focus now is to take confidence into indoor and outdoor season.” Ciaran O'Lionaird of Florida State won the individual title in 30:03.34. Alabama placed four runners in the top and posted a 25-point margin (30-55) over the Seminoles for the team championship.
