B-CU Come-From-Behind Win Over Virginia Commonwealth 10-6

 

The Wildcats got off to a rocky start committing six errors in the first three innings and VCU utilized eight hits to score six runs (only two earned runs) off B-CU starter LHP Ali Simpson.

 

B-CU’s offense scored five runs to cut the lead to 6-5 after five innings. Emmanuel Castro launched a two-run home run to right field driving in Peter O’Brien who singled.

 

Castro doubled and was knocked in by an Alejandro Sanchez RBI single.  Castro was 3-4 in the ball game with a HR and two doubles to pace the 14- hit ‘Cats offense.


 

 

 

Durrence Home Run In the Sixth Gives B-CU Lead For Good 9-6

 

A four-run 6th inning for B-CU included four hits, two VCU balks and a Ryan Durrence two-run home run to left field to key the winning rally.

 

Matt Wright tripled and scored on a passed ball for the B-CU’s 10th and final run in the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning.

 

Bethune-Cookman (6-9) won for the fourth straight time at Jackie Robinson

Ballpark beating VCU (9-4), and ending the Rams’ five-game winning streak.

 

Simpson (2-1) earned the pitching win striking out six in six innings. Relievers Chris Anselmo (7th and 8th) and Juan Perez closed out the victory. It was save #2 on the season for Perez pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Perez was also 3-5 at the plate and contributing at 2B before coming in as the closer, striking out the final batter looking.

 

B-CU will play Wagner College Saturday night at 7 p.m. and VCU again Sunday at noon in the 2nd Annual B-CU Invitational.
