Juan Perez Selected By Colorado Rockies

Junior RHP Juan Perez was selected in the recent Major League Baseball draft by the Colorado Rockies in the 18th round.  Perez, from Orlando's University High School and Central Florida Community College, played one season with the Wildcats and earned first team 2010 All-MEAC honors at both 2B and relief pitcher.

Perez set a new B-CU single season record with 10 saves in 2010. He struck out 40 batters in 33.1 innings pitched making 23 appearances in relief for the Wildcats with a 1-3 record and 5.40 ERA.

Juan started 46 games at 2B hitting .347 with one home run, 12 doubles, 34 RBI and 10-13 stolen bases.

Junior 1B Ryan Durrence Turns Down Offers

B-CU's 2010 RBI and run leader Ryan Durrence (.364, 18 HRs, 72 RBI, 57 runs scored) did not accept financial offers by teams and was not selected in the MLB draft.  Hopefully this paves the way for the Jacksonville (Trinity Christian HS) slugger to return for his senior season at B-CU in 2011.

B-CU Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Jose Vazquez reported that two recent Wildcat signees were also drafted this week.  Middle infielder/relief pitcher Adaric Kelly from Aruba was picked in the 28th round and catcher Kenny Diaz from Puerto Rico was picked in the 49th round by the Houston Astros.
