Wildcats Snap Four-Game Losing Streak, Now 7-7 In MEAC With Tough Defensive Effort In 52-44 Win

In a game that featured aggressive, tough defense, blocked shots, 88 total rebounds and only 96 points combined by the two teams, B-CU snapped its four-game losing streak with a hard-nosed 52-46 home MEAC win over Howard University at the Ocean Center.

"We want to play with this kind of defensive effort and it was good to see the Cage Cats back to playing tough, defending, and getting out in transition when we can," said Coach Reed.

Sophomore gaurd C. J. Reed scored 12 points and senior Jarrell Thomas, playing in his final home game for B-CU at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center - contributed 10 points in 28 minutes off the bench.

Both teams were under 35% field goal shooting in the contest. BCU was 22-63 (34.9%) and Howard (15-47, 31.9%). In the game, there were 32 offensive boards (19 by B-CU - six by Stanley Elliott). Albert Abrahams led B-CU with
nine rebounds.

"I was elated with the win and the way we played defense tonight.  I am happy with the effort and the defense. Tonight we had sixteen more shot attempts and everybody understands their role. We have a lot to play for and to finish strong in the MEAC and continue to get ready for the conference tournament.  We want to build momentum and get our swagger back (in the final three road games) and continue to work hard and out work everybody."

B-CU is next at South Carolina State University Saturday in Orangeburg and continuing to Winston-Salem State next Monday, March 1. The regular season concludes at FAMU, March 4 in Tallahassee.
