Coach Brian Jenkins On Coach Lawal McCray: He is a Bethune-Cookman graduate and very prideful of his alma mater. Coach is a great teacher and organizer and breaks things down like I've never seen. He hustles and is a worker and a great recruiter. A great addition to our staff and he is helping restore Wildcat pride in our football program." Lawal McCray returns to Bethune-Cookman in 2011 for his second year as an assistant coach, working along the offensive line with the tight ends. He joined the staff in 2010. A native of Pompano Beach, Florida, McCray followed in his family footsteps to Bethune-Cookman College and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1991. He received his M.S. Degree in School Guidance and Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 2000. Coach McCray is currently pursuing his Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. McCray has over 17 years coaching experience on the high school and collegiate levels. Prior to joining Coach Jenkins' staff, he was the Head Coach at Blanche Ely High School for two years. He was also the offensive line coach, in-season Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and team academic coordinator for Lincoln University under the legendary "Leaping" Lamar Parrish. He also served as the Head Coach at Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. At Boyd, he turned around a program and led them to the playoffs for the first time in five years. Both years the offensive unit was ranked in the top three for offensive production in the conference. McCray is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, International Free and Accepted Masons, Broward County Chapter of Bethune-Cookman University Alumni Association, and It's All About Youth non-profit organization, Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church and the Broward County Athletic Association. Lawal is married to the former Maralice Castellow and they have two children: daughter Lamiah (11) and son Lawal Jr. (5) |
