Bethune-Cookman University Athletics Director Lynn Thompson has named Loritz "Scooter" Clark as the Men's and Women's Head Golf Coach, effective April 26. Clark replaces long-time B-CU Coach Dr. Gary Freeman who retired in 2010.

Clark, a Silver Spring, Maryalnd native, has been in the golf industry for over 20 years and is a 1994 University of Maryland graduate. He played two years for the Terps and Golf Coach Fred Funk, now a PGA professional on both the PGA and Champions Tours.

"I am excited and looking forward to coaching the men's and women's teams at Bethune-Cookman University," said Clark who was working at the Golf Channel in Orlando the past two years.

"The program that Coach Freeman and Coach Cy (McClairen) have in place has been a good one and I want to continue the growth. I have known Coach Freeman for over 20 years back to my years in Maryland."

" "Scooter" will do a great job," said former B-CU Golf Coach Dr. Gary Freeman. "I have known him for a long time and he is a hard worker and will keep the golf tradition goingat Bethune-Cookman."

Athletics Director Lynn Thompson commented about the new B-CU golf coach. "Replacing a legend in college golf like Gary Freeman is virtually impossible to do, yet we have indentified someone with the same core values, work ethic and talent to continue to build on the great success of our men and women's golf programs. With his track record as a PGA teaching professional and his experience as a Division I head coach, I have no doubt that Coach Clark will have a tremendous impact on our program and on our university," said Thompson.
Clark coached Division I women's golf at Chicago State University (2001-2004), and he was Golf Operations Manager for Disney Sports Attractions (2005-2008), and has been at the Golf Channel since 2008 working as Course Operations Manager for New Media Department.
