DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Powered by scoring totals of 14 and 13 from seniors Demetria Frank and Jalisa Isaac, the Lady Wildcats (3-9) made it victories in consecutive games, defeating Kent State (1-9), 58-49, Friday at Moore Gymnasium.

“Coming into this game, it was in our conversation to be able to put two wins back-to-back,” said Head Coach Vanessa Blair.

The Lady Wildcats put the first points on the board with an Isaac long-ranger, nine seconds into the game, and never really looked back. B-CU quickly built a 12-point lead, riding the three-ball for early game separation.

The Lady Wildcats fought off a Golden Flashes rally just beyond the midpoint of the first period, creating turnovers for points to build back up to a nine-point lead at half. B-CU scored 11 of its 27 first half points off steals.

B-CU came out of the locker room firing once again in the second half, growing their advantage first to double digits in the opening moments, then extending to 16, holding a double-figure lead for the first 11 minutes of the period.

Despite the suggestion of their (then) 1-8 record, Kent State proved resilient and made several pushes at a comeback late in the game, coming as close as five with just under a minute to play. The Lady Wildcats made all the right moves to secure the win, putting down the key free throws and topping KSU, 58-49, making it two in a row.

“We’ve got to learn how to finish teams off,” said Blair. “Prior to this, we had to learn how to win, it’s one step at a time.”

Frank led all B-CU scorers with 14, in addition to her seven steals, five assists, and six rebounds. Isaac wasn’t far behind, logging 13 points, including 3-of-7 from the perimeter.

“We’re hungry right now, we’re tire of losing, and every game is going to be a dogfight now that we’re all back except one key component,” said Frank, who is admittedly not 100 percent recovered from her previous knew injury.

“I have confidence that when I do get [fully recovered], it’s going to be trouble for our opponents.”

The Lady Wildcats hit the road again once more before conference play, heading to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on January 2 at 5 p.m.

“This feels real good to start to get our feet back and start to get the chemistry back together,” noted Blair.
