DeLAND, Fla. - After a challenging Saturday at the Stetson Invitational, the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman softball headed out to Patricia Wilson Field to wrap up the tournament with the consolation game matchup. The seeding put B-CU back into a matchup with Appalachian State, which had grabbed a win off B-CU, Saturday night, at the hands of four B-CU errors in the final inning. In today's game, B-CU controlled the game defensively and had one strong offensive inning to take the lead and hold onto it, shutting out ASU 2-0.

This game was the same type of defensive struggle that the Wildcats faced last evening against ASU. Both teams were held scoreless and stranded runners through the second inning, when B-CU got a little something going on offense. With Ashton Hinds and Tameika Jonas on base, Cesley Tafoya smacked a solid double to center field, batting both through home plate, and pushing B-CU on top, 2-0.

B-CU played excellent defense, shutting down the Mountaineers of ASU, holding them to four total hits in the game. Meanwhile, ASU kept the Wildcats in check beyond the third inning, ending the game with B-CU on top 2-0 in the shutout.

Cesley Tafoya had a solid day, batting in B-CU's only runs, but hitting 2-of-3 at-bats. Joana Hernandez had a great day at first base, collecting 14 putouts, with help from Aurelia Gamch at shortstop, finishing with 5 assists. Chastity Sanders (2-5) pitched the complete game for the win, collecting 3 strikeouts.

The Wildcats (8-13) return home for a few days of rest, following five straight days of games. Next up, Temple University comes to town for a double-header at Sunnyland Park, beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10.
