Written By: Melanie Cheatham Sports Information Student Intern - Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman women's tennis team fought to obtain four of six singles matches for the 5-2 victory over visiting University of North Dakota in a scheduled match at City Island Tennis Center, Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats jumped out with a 2-1 lead in doubles when defeated University of North Dakota opponents. Katie Callison defeated sophomore wildcat Katarina Szaboova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at number one singles. Lady Wildcat Shereen Peterson- Paul was also defeated by UND opponent Erin Kuppers; however, the Lady Wildcats continued to fight hard.
Stacey Lopez, New York native, beat in Hollie Welk 6-4, 7-6 the No. 3 position. Following Lopez was a victory from senior wildcat Eva Hankova. She handled UND opponent Gina Larson, 6-4, and 6-4 at No. 4.
Valeshia Kendrick kept the Wildcat's advantage rolling in singles play with the 6-1, 6-1 score against Megan Swenor at No. 5. Jeneice Ward at No. 6 was victorious against Mindy Lawrence 7-5, 6-3.
The Wildcat men's and women's teams will next be in competition on Monday, March 22 against Wright State University in Daytona Beach at City Island Tennis Center.
